The incident took place in Norwalk around 10:15 p.m., Monday, May 8 at 2 Cossett Road, said Deputy Chief of the Norwalk Fire Department Steve Shay.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the house fully involved with fire showing all floors, Shay said.

In addition, there were three cars on fire in the driveway, and motorcycles and car parts on fire in the garage, he added.

The home's basement apartment was also on fire, officials said.

"There was a hoarding condition at the home, along with flammable liquids & propane tanks in the garage," Shay said. "All of this contributed to a large fire load, making extinguishment difficult."

Shay said all occupants of the home managed to exit the home safely with one dog. One cat died in the home.

Two neighbors were treated for smoke inhalation and one firefighter was transported to Norwalk Hospital with heat exhaustion.

The fire is still under investigation for a cause. The house is a total loss, displacing all six occupants,  Shay said.
